Copic Tut - Orange Daisy!

Copics used: YR16,YR15,Y17,G28,G24,E25,E21
Prismacolor Pencils used: Orange, Spanish Orange, Sunburst Yellow, Blender

I started with YR16 and colored in close to the center of the flower:

Next, I used YR15 and filled in next to that for the midtones:

Then used Y17 for the highlights at the tips of the petals:

Then I went over and filled in a little more YR16 towards the center for a little "extra". I also colored in the stem with G28 (darker) and G24 (lighter). Then E25 and E21 for the center of the flower. I didn't spend too much time on that part b/c I knew I was going to cover it with distress gold stickles!

Normally, I would be done coloring this pretty little daisy, but I feel like I want more "orangey" contrast! So I got out my lovely Prismacolor Pencils and colored on top of my copics. Here I used, Orange for the darker part, then Spanish Orange next to that, then Sunburst Yellow for the tips. Can you tell the difference in contrast on the pic just above and the pic below?

  • Tip: Be sure you are done coloring w/your copics b/c after you color with your prismacolor pencils you do NOT want to go back over with your copics... it will mess them up!

Copic Tutorial - Feathering the Prickly Pod

Copics used: R89, R85, R83, G99, BG96, BG93, E49
Prismacolor Pencils: Tuscan Red,Magenta, Mahogany Red, Clay Rose, Dark Green, Marine Green, Blender
For this example I used one of my own Digi Stamps! Prickly Pod I wanted the colors to be dark and muted so I started with R89 for the darker shaded part and filled in around the bottom left edge. (My light source is coming from the top right!) When I say "filled in" what I'm really saying is I "swished" the color from the bottom upward.
With my next color, R85, I also swished my color into the darker R89 along the same curve. Sort of "feathering" them together. I didn't use the traditional copic blending technique.
For my lightest color I used, R83, and swished it into the color below. Then filled in the rest of the top of the flower pod. I went over the flower 2 more times... swishing!

Next, for the leaves I started with the darker shade, G99, and filled in the area at the base of the leaves.

The midtone I used was BG96 and I filled in the middle area of the leaves.

For the light shade, I used BG93 for the tips of the leaves. Then E49 for the stem.

Once I was finished with my Copics, I decided to add more contrast and blending by using my Prismacolor Pencils! For the flower pod I used Tuscan Red for the darkest parts then graduated to Magenta and Mahongany Red, and Clay Rose for the lightest part. For the leaves I used Dark Green & Marine Green. See 2 pics below for before & after to compare the added contrast of the Prismacolor Pencils.

The girls don't understand cows!

We took the girls for a 4x4 ride over the weekend! Francie loved it and wanted to see everything! Emma was shivering and just wanted to stay in my lap! We stopped by the field across from us and let the girls check out the cows! They hollered and yodeled! It was so funny! I don't know what they would have done if we'd let them out of the truck. They were trying so hard to talk to them but the cows just weren't understanding. Who knows what the cows thought of all the ruckus, but they stuck around for a while and stared at us!

Snowman for Granny!

It was such a surprise to see the snow in south Ga last weekend! It started on Friday night and melted away by Saturday afternoon. But we enjoyed it while it was here. We went riding around Saturday morning looking at all the beauty! David built a snowman for Granny right outside her sewing window! Of course, I had to get a snapshot of the girls next to him!! They didn't know what to think of this snow. Francie didn't like it so much, but that was no surprise b/c she doesn't even like to step in wet grass. Emma was the opposite, she was running this way and that way, making tracks! She was really mushing, my little snow dog!
