David's '61 Convertable Lincoln

David loves his trucks and classic vehicles. This one is a real beauty! We like to take it cruising when the weather is nice. Sometimes we ride to Augusta for a nice dinner. I took a few shots of it the other day and these were my favorites!

Succulents!

I love growing succulents! They are so unusual and healthy looking! Here are a few shots of some of mine!

Christmas Meat!

I just came across this pic of the girls at Christmas time. David gave them a piece (a slab) of meat that we had already pretty much finished. That's my old girl, Isabelle, in the middle. She stays with Granny to keep her company and they've grown quite close! The girls went crazy over this treat, they thought it was Christmas! ;-)

Ogeechee River boat ride

Today was so nice David decided to take us on an afternoon boat ride! How beautiful (& full) the river was, everything was turning green! David saw 3 snakes dropped into the water out of low lying trees. Of course, I missed all 3 of them. ha! Here are a few I wanted to share with you!

David and his smiling face!! =)

These are some of the rivers "shacks" we passed on the way. I could do an entire photographic series on river shacks. So many interesting structures!

Is there anything prettier than long lucious moss hanging low over the river?

Beautiful Dahlias!

I now have a new favorite flower!! Dahlias. There are so many varities, the possiblities are endless! Notice on this first photo (as always, click to enlarge) how I caught a moth sniffing my flower! I snapped the shutter button just in time b/c he wasn't there for a half a second. I shot these with my little casio pocket camera. Sometimes I break out my professional equipment.

Sunny gardening day!

The sun was out today and I was so anxious to get in my garden and starting potting plants! The girls piddled around and helped me for a bit. They both posed for a portrait in front of my yellow gerber daisy!

Barn & old truck

This is the other side of the barn. You can see we have our chicken "booths" already installed. We put 8 total (6 eggs for David and 2 for me!) The chicken yard will extend out past where the gravel is. I can't wait to have chickens and get eggs everyday!!! That truck will sit in the middle of the chicken yard. It will be like a little island for them. I'm thinking of filling the truck bed with soil and planting something in the back!

Garden Shed Signs

I'm slowly getting the inside of my garden shed in working order. I'll do more photos as I get things done. I like having old timey signs on my old walls. Here are a couple of shots I took the other day.

Boot Purse!

As soon as David saw this purse, he knew I was gonna want it! It's handmade from old boots! Another goodie from the many crafts at the Rattlesnake Roundup!

Swing Bird Feeder

This was one of the goodies David got me at the Rattlesnake Roundup the other weekend. It was fun watching the birds discover a new feeder! The squirrels too of course!

Hydrangea growth

This is how much my hydrangea has grown in 3 weeks! It's gonna be pretty!

Don't sniff my butt!

Cornbread tolerates alot from the girls but sometimes he's just tired of having his butt sniffed. Don't worry though, he didn't actually even touch Francie! Just scared her. My baby. =(

Emma plays with a Grape!

Emma likes to play with her food before she eats it!

New 4x4 truck!

Anyone that knows David knows how he loves to build big 4x4 trucks! This is one of the new ones for this summer! To give you an idea for the scale, the door handle is at the top of my head! I've been helping him on some welding on those metal tire flares that you see. That will actually be a template for making them. Welding is fun!!

Hoe Cakes - or Lacey Cornbread

That's how their known to most southerners. It so good and crunchy! There is a technique to get it that way! Takes practice! I studied for years under Granny!

Ingredients:
Plain yellow cornmeal
Water
Salt & Pepper

You have to get the consistency thin! Best cooked in a small iron griddle. Let your grease get pretty hot. You need to replenish your grease after every one you make. (let it get hot again!) Then pour in another hoe cake! Let it get crunchy looking and flip it! Once cooked, you can layer them out on paper towels so some of the grease comes out.

David loves to eat these for breakfast with a tall glass of milk! It reminds him of when he was a kid and his Dad would fix this for him before school.

Cornbread

I spotted Cornbread sitting on the John Deere tire and wanted to get a good shot of him. This was the only one I got.
When he saw me coming he jumped right down to come say hello!

Lizard

I saw this lizard on a fern in my garden shed. He looked so peaceful just resting on that leaf. I didn't point him out to the girls.

Fairy Door!

I found a blank wood fairy door (one of the many unfinished wood projects) in Hobby Lobby the other day and thought.. "what garden shed would be complete without a door for the fairy's to come in and out of!" I used acryllics and tried to make it look like it's a little weathered! I will find the perfect spot for it, of course, it has to be convenient for the fairys, or any keebler elves that decide to visit!

New Bird house

While we were at the Rattlesnake roundup yesterday. David got me a few goodies! One gift was this great birdhouse! It has 8 condos! We put it on a post that was already out in the field. Soon that post will be inside the cow fence!!
You can see Cornbread in the 2nd pic. He will follow you every step!

Free Weeds

My cousin Melynda used to have a small sign by her front porch by her flowers that said "free weeds - you pick!" I always thought that was so cute and I wanted one!
So, at Hobby Lobby I picked up 2 small blank wood pieces and a small wood stake. I painted my own sign with acrylic paint and glued the pieces together with gorilla wood glue and then put a finish on it. This will go somewhere in my garden, not sure of the perfect spot yet, but I'll let you know!
